RE: Recommendations for used silverplated professional trumpet
Your title says USED silver plated so you could try Trent Austin. Here is his link, click on STORE and chose Pre-owned trumpets. Big selection there:
www.austincustombrass.bizI bought most of my horns from them. Very trustworthy .

RE: Easy way to increase air supply for brass players
Let me tell you, at 85 I still take 45 minute walks twice a day and I've been doing that since I retired in 2001. I credit those walks with giving me the ability to play the trumpet as well as I do today, even though other health issues have made playing a bit tougher. So walking your dog, sir will pay dividends.

RE: New Player has entered the Game
I also believe that some teachers start their students with the 7C because it encourages playing with as little pressure as possible. I was encouraged to start with the 7C by the professor at the conservatory, but never did like its bite and when I later started taking lessons from a professional trumpet player he recommended the Bach 10.5C and I used it for 12 years. I still have it, but it didn't work for me when a made a comeback after a 51 year hiatus from the horn. The one that works for me now is a Wedge 65MD, which is a tad larger than a 3C ID. Unfortunately a costly safari ensued before I discovered the Wedge.

RE: Yiou gotta see and hear this
@Kehaulani
Your sister was quite a lady and sorry to hear she had a breakdown, but considering the kind of person she was, and the profession she was in, a breakdown is certainly understandable. She and others like her are very special people. -
RE: A real OLD comebacker here
@BigDub Thanks Wayne. Glad to see you are here because I always enjoyed your posts.

RE: Marching Season and Triple Super C
Have to agree with some of the conversation here in regard to the so called high intelligence of those who possess a university degree of one sort or another. In my many years as a top executive in the printing and publishing industry I was involved with a lot of hiring, and I hired more high school grads who really made it in the business, than those with fancy degrees, myself included ( I retired a vice president, publisher and general manager of one of eastern Canada's largest printing and publishing operations ). However, having made this statement, let me say that in medicine and law and a few other professions, it is a whole different story, and I have a great deal of respect for those ( Like Dr. Mark and Dr-GO ) and the dedication to learning it takes to excel in their profession.

RE: My low notes sound like a gibbering Dalek
@dr-go
I got one of those rings, too, Doc.As far as using pressure, well it would be nice if we could all play with zero pressure, but that is a fallacy. The thing is to use as little of it as possible and still get a good sound.

RE: Just Another "New" Discovery
When I Fall In Love is one of my favorite ballads and wish I could play it as well as Blue Mitchell does :

RE: More physiological than medical
My heart goes out to you, Mark. Living on a fixed income is difficult in the best of times, and really tough in these times of Covid.
I've been on a fixed income for 20 years now and what had been a really comfortable emergency savings situation has eroded over the years. But like me, you have learned to adjust and get by.
In my life, music is probably one of the most important things that keep me sane. I lost my wife to cancer in 2012 after a long marriage (56 years ) and I was devastated. But by 2015 I was climbing out of a dark hole back up into the light and my friends, several of them musicians, convinced me to take a crack at picking up the horn again. In the spring of 2016 I did. I hadn't played in 50 years so playing again wasn't easy. But, surprisingly, things started to come back quickly and by the fall I was playing first chair with the local Horizons band and from then on I really started to improve. Today I am playing with one of the most respected community bands in my province,
So stick with it, Mark. Things will improve with time, and there will always be good days and bad days, because the horn is a bitch, but if you love the bitch and stick with her, you will be well rewarded, my friend,
Cheers,

Olds Recording
After a long search I finally found exactly what I was looking for : an Olds Recording at a price I could afford, thanks to Trent Austin. Right now it is likely in Canada Customs so it should soon be in my hot little hands. Man I cannot wait.
Here's a video showing off the 1938-39 Olds Recording

WYNTON MARSALIS, the writer
I just finished reading Wynton's book: Sweet Swing Blues On The Road. He is a super intelligent man and a very good writer ( take my word for it. I was a Publisher ). A truly interesting look at a group of craftsman plying their trade in today's music scene. This is a coffee table book, loaded with plenty of professionally taken photographs. You will really get to know and understand Wynton through his writings. He is one fine, very talented, human being.

RE: Fast Tempo and old farts
@Kehaulani
I gave it a try and nothing much changed, but maybe I have to spend more time on it.
The good new is that a lot of my homework paid off at last night's practice. What I discovered after we played the piece all the way through was that the second two thirds of the piece went quite well for me. So now I can see where I have to focus my efforts and trust in my muscle memory.I am feeling much better about the whole thing now, and I credit that is due to you guys here who really care about their fellow trumpet playing members. THANKS !!!!

RE: Any recent experience on resuming playing after CAGS?
Glad to hear you fellows are doing well. Hope this will be a better year and will see you both getting lots of trumpet playing.
