The one thing I love to do is play the old standards. I haven't had a lot of extra time to do that up until now because the band's MD had been introducing a lot of new material for many upcoming spring and summer concerts. So now I am getting back at playing the kind of material I really love the most. Here is a short list of some of the songs I will be performing over the next few days. Are any of your favorites here ?

That picture and a cozy fire go great together, Doc. Wayne is really something with a brush.

There is little doubt in my mind that your great grandfather's work has been an influence on yours, Wayne, and not just because you have been looking at his paintings, but because I have strong beliefs about how we inherit things from our ancestors. -

Wayne's( BIG DUB ) latest work of art. He is locked out and asked me to post this for him, along with his comments. It is a sweeping panoramic landscape painting oozing life.
This painting is inspired by Wayne's local surrounding area of New Jersey.
" A real scene with some artistic licenses taken by me, of course, " said Wayne. -

Our band does a medley of theme songs from tv comedies in the 60s and The Adams Family is one of them. We even have to click our fingers. A fun piece to play. -

RE: Need some information on this item.
Yeah, none of those gadgets for me. I know a lot a people will disagree with me, but I don't even buzz. I found the time is better spent with the horn on my face.

RE: Railroad Photography
Nice pics, Dale. I was always a train lover and seeing both steam engines and diesel brings back memories.

I do not know of one single musician with nothing to work on. This is a wonderful opportunity to break normal lifes lockdown on our grooming of basics.
I have been reading and hearing so much beefing about the shut down of our band from the members and when I ask if they are practicing, 90% said they were not. Sheesh ! I am going to send Robin's quote above to every damn member.
I for one have been using every valuable moment of the shut down to improve on my playing...and not only technical stuff but no less than 12 tunes and ballads every afternoon. -
RE: Getting straight what I can and cannot do
Don't sweat it, Kehaulani. Hell, you don't have anything to prove.

George, I just wish you the best and hope you can regain your heal
Hey, Butch, good to hear from you. I've been on meds now for close to a month and all seems to be going okay.
The band practices every Wednesday night, weather permitting. We are playing in an outdoor gazebo until it gets cold. Don't know what happens after that.
Glad you are okay. All the best, buddy,
GeorgeHey, Doc, I can only hope and pray that you and your wife will stay safe and healthy.

RE: German Band
@Dale-Proctor
" Basic ornamentation " of the melody has worked for me the 12 years I played in the 50s and 60s and anything I been doing since I started up again in 2016. In fact I don't care to listen to those jazz players who record a 7 or 8 minute rendition of Stella By Starlight where you may hear 40 or 50 seconds of the melody. I was always a huge fan of Bobby Hackett because you always knew the title of the song he was playing. -
RE: Jackie Gleason Plays Cornet
I still listen to my Jackie Gleason Orchestra lps that were lush arrangements of songs like I'M IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE, and others like it. Thankfully, though, Jackie left the cornet solos to the great Bobby Hackett.

RE: Jackie Gleason Plays Cornet
Yeah, seems the jazz players today play very angry. I don't know, but the thing I liked about players like Bobby Hackett, when he played a ballad like Stardust, he improvised but he was still with the melody and you always knew the song he was playing.

How many is too many? I'm guessing more than 16.

As a medical professional I may suggest perhaps you need medical help.
Yes, and you can pay Doc so many horns per visit.

RE: Sad News For Anglophiles
Although I am Canadian, I was never a great believer in royalty per se. But I was a young boy during the war years and I couldn't help but admire Princess Elizabeth who studied how to be a mechanic and drove trucks and other vehicles as a member of the military. And I have admired her through the years not just as a Queen who reigned for 70 years, but for the great lady she became during those years. She will be missed.
